Gearbox Lubrication
Use only Summer grade engine oil (S.A.E. 40), and check the level every 500 miles, topping up if needed. After 5,000 miles working drain, flush out the housing, replace the drain plug and refill to the correct level.
The filler plug, drain plug, and level plug are shown on page 51.
Do not unscrew the cam plate pivot from the back of the gearbox housing. All oil plugs are in the cover. See illustration.
When topping up or refilling always have the level plug out, and as soon as oil begins to run from the plug hole stop pouring. With the machine upright allow all surplus to drain from the plug hole. When the flow ceases the level is correct and the level plug must be replaced. Also replace the filler plug.
Do not overfill. The level is too high when oil will flow from the level plug hole.
