Adjusting The Steering Head
Undo the clamping bolt in the fork head clip. To remove play, tighten down the column lock nut a little, retighten the clamping pin and check the adjustment. The steering column must be quite free, without play. This adjustment is best made when the front of the engine is supported from the ground on a block of wood, or when the front wheel is quite free to turn. If the steering head is dismantled at any time, it is very important to note the number of balls fitted in each race. 19 quarter inch balls are fitted in each bearing. Under no circumstances must more be fitted, as the steering of the machine will be seriously affected if too many are put in.
