Adjustment of Brakes
The frequency with which adjustment will be needed will depend upon how hard the rider uses the brakes. Never allow the brakes to get into an unsafe state due to neglect of the adjustment. The hand lever and pedal must never move over half their respective movement without fully applying the shoes.
Front Brake Adjustment. (Illustration page 32).
To tighten the adjustment slack off the lock-nut, and screw out the adjuster away from the brake cam lever below. Retighten the locknut after the correct adjustment has been made.
Rear Brake Adjustment. (Illustration page 54).
Slacken the hexagon lock-nut behind the adjusting nut, and screw the adjuster nut further forward along the brake rod towards the spring. Re-tighten the lock-nut up against the adjuster nut after getting the correct adjustment.
